At PrepParity ("we", "us", or "our"), we take your privacy as seriously as your UPSC preparation. This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, disclose, and safeguard your information when you visit our website and use our application.

1. Introduction

This Privacy Policy is an electronic record in the form of an electronic contract formed under the Information Technology Act, 2000 and the Digital Personal Data Protection (DPDP) Act, 2023. This privacy policy does not require any physical, electronic, or digital signature.

By accessing or using the PrepParity platform, you signify that you have read, understood, and agree to be bound by this Privacy Policy. If you do not agree with the terms of this Privacy Policy, please do not access the platform.

2. Information We Collect

We collect information that identifies, relates to, describes, or could reasonably be linked, directly or indirectly, with a particular consumer or device ("Personal Data").

2.1 Information You Provide to Us

  • Account Information: Email address, name, and profile details used for authentication and account creation.
  • Payment Information: We utilize secure third-party payment processors. We do not collect or store full credit card numbers or banking authentication details on our servers.
  • User Content: Study materials, typed answers, handwritten notes, and metadata associated with your study sessions.

2.2 Information Automatically Collected

  • Usage Data: Revision streaks, study progress, time spent on topics, and interaction telemetry.
  • Device Data: IP address, browser type, operating system, and referring URLs.

3. How We Process Data

Your data is strictly processed to fulfill our contractual obligations to you and improve the PrepParity service. We use your data to:

  • Personalize your mastery map and study priorities.
  • Calculate and schedule spaced repetition reviews (SM-2 algorithm) based on your performance metrics.
  • Track your daily study streaks and overall exam readiness.
  • Process transactions and send related information, including confirmations and invoices.
  • Send technical notices, updates, security alerts, and support messages.

We deeply respect your privacy and the intellectual property of coaching institutes.

The 60-Minute Rule

Any PDF you upload to PrepParity is processed in memory for text extraction and is permanently, irreversibly deleted from our active servers and storage buckets within 60 minutes of the completion of the upload pipeline.

We do not store, archive, index, or distribute your uploaded coaching materials, proprietary PDFs, or personal documents. The content extracted (text snippets) is tied to your account for the purpose of generating your personal study notes and is not shared with other users.

5. Third-Party Disclosures

We do not sell your Personal Data. We rely on trusted third-party sub-processors to provide our service. Data is shared only to the extent necessary to perform their respective functions:

  • Database & Authentication: Secure hosting of user data, authentication, and transient file storage.
  • AI Processing: Text extraction from uploaded documents and evaluation of handwritten answers. Your data is not used to train any third-party AI models.
  • Payment Processing: PCI-compliant processing of subscription payments. We do not store your card details on our servers.
  • Analytics: Anonymous product usage telemetry to improve the platform. No personally identifiable information is collected.
  • Email Delivery: Delivery of transactional emails, login codes, and study notifications.

6. Cookies & Tracking Technologies

We use cookies, web beacons, and similar tracking technologies to track activity on our service and store certain information.

  • Strictly Necessary Cookies: Required for the operation of the platform (e.g., maintaining your logged-in session).
  • Analytical/Performance Cookies: Allow us to recognize and count the number of visitors and see how visitors move around the platform.

You can instruct your browser to refuse all cookies or to indicate when a cookie is being sent. However, if you do not accept essential session cookies, you will not be able to log in or use PrepParity.

7. Data Security Practices

We have implemented reasonable administrative, technical, and physical security measures to protect your Personal Data against unauthorized access, destruction, or alteration.

This includes enforcing TLS/SSL encryption for all data in transit, and relying on SOC2-compliant infrastructure providers for data at rest. However, no method of transmission over the Internet or method of electronic storage is 100% secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.

8. Your Rights (DPDP Act 2023)

In compliance with the Digital Personal Data Protection Act, 2023 (India), you possess the following rights regarding your Personal Data:

  • Right to Access: You may request a summary of the personal data we hold about you and the identities of all Data Fiduciaries with whom the data has been shared.
  • Right to Correction: You may request correction of inaccurate or misleading personal data.
  • Right to Erasure: You may request the deletion of your account and associated data.
  • Right of Grievance Redressal: You have the right to a readily available means of grievance redressal provided by us.

Account Deletion Process

You can delete your account directly from your Dashboard Settings. Upon deletion, all your personal data, including notes, progress, and streaks, will be permanently removed from our active systems within 30 days.

9. Children's Privacy

PrepParity is designed for adult candidates preparing for the UPSC Civil Services Examination. We do not knowingly collect personally identifiable information from anyone under the age of 18.

If you are a parent or guardian and you are aware that your child has provided us with Personal Data, please contact us so we can take necessary actions to remove that information from our servers.

10. Changes to This Policy

We may update our Privacy Policy from time to time. We will notify you of any material changes by posting the new Privacy Policy on this page and updating the "Effective Date" at the top.

You are advised to review this Privacy Policy periodically for any changes.
